10 Early Signs of Cancer

Cancer can show different signs and symptoms depending on the type, location, and stage of the disease. Many early symptoms may also be caused by other common health conditions. However, if any unusual symptom lasts for several weeks or becomes worse, it is important to see a doctor. Early detection can greatly improve the chances of successful treatment.

Below are ten common warning signs that health experts often mention:

  1. Unexplained weight loss
Losing about 10 pounds or more without trying can sometimes be linked to cancers such as pancreatic, stomach, esophageal, or lung cancer.

  2. Persistent fatigue
Feeling extremely tired all the time, even after getting enough rest, may be a warning sign that something is wrong.

  3. Unusual lumps or swelling
A lump or thickening under the skin, especially in areas like the breast, neck, lymph nodes, or testicles, should always be checked by a doctor.

  4. Changes in the skin
This may include yellowing of the skin, unusual darkening, redness, sores that do not heal, or new or changing moles.

  5. Changes in bowel or bladder habits
Long-lasting constipation, diarrhea, narrow stools, blood in the stool or urine, or frequent urination may indicate a health problem.

  6. Persistent cough or breathing problems
A cough that does not go away, trouble breathing, or hoarseness in the voice could be a warning sign.

  7. Difficulty swallowing or constant indigestion
Pain or discomfort while swallowing, ongoing heartburn, or persistent indigestion should not be ignored.

  8. Unexplained pain
Ongoing pain such as headaches, back pain, or bone pain without a clear cause may need medical attention.

  9. Unusual bleeding or bruising
This can include blood in cough, stool, or urine, abnormal vaginal bleeding, or frequent bruising without injury.

  10. Frequent fever or night sweats
Repeated fever or heavy night sweats without infection may sometimes be linked to certain blood cancers.

It is important to remember that having one or more of these symptoms does not necessarily mean a person has cancer. Many of these signs can also be caused by other medical conditions. However, if symptoms continue for several weeks, it is always best to consult a healthcare professional for proper medical advice.
